The genetic combinations for Black and Tan are very complicated. By breeding a Black and Tan to the other colors including another Black and Tan you can begin to narrow down the genetic make-up of your Black and Tan. Black & Tans that carry the white gene (review pedigree for a Blenheim or tri color ancestor in up to 3 generations back) can sometimes produce all 4 colors when bred to another whole color carrying the white gene or if bred to a Blenheim or tri color.

Black and tans are my favorite color so I tend to have more Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in the black and tan color than the other colors. My favorite characteristic about the black and tans are their incredible ears and slippers which is a hallmark trait of the breed and in my opinion black and tans rule when it comes to incredibly long ears and wonderful slippers.
