Black & Tan

Dog Bone

The black & tan color is my favorite!

Jet black with rich tan markings over the eyes, on cheeks, inside ears, on chest, legs, and underside of tail.

Pictured here is our Cruisin Minnie Mouse ("Minnie") whom I absolutely adore. She is currently AKC pointed and we are working towards obtaining her championship title.

Color Genetics

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Black and Tan

The genetic combinations for Black and Tan are very complicated. By breeding a Black and Tan to the other colors including another Black and Tan you can begin to narrow down the genetic make-up of your Black and Tan. Black and Tans that carry the white gene (review pedigree for a Blenheim or Tri Color ancestor in up to 3 generations back) can sometimes produce all 4 colors when bred to another whole color carrying the white gene or if bred to a Blenheim or Tri Color. If breeding a Black and Tan to another Black and Tan or Ruby and only one of the pair carries the white gene then whole color puppies will be produced, but some white mismarking can occur. Mismarking does diminish with maturity.

Pictured here is our AKC Ch Crystalridge's Cruisin Rackler CGC, TDIA, TG1 ("Cruiser") . He is our first Cavalier, our first champion and we have named our kennel affix after him.

Characteristics

My favorite characteristic about the Black and Tans are their incredible ears and slippers which is a hallmark trait of the breed and in my opinion Black and Tans rule when it comes to incredibly long ears and wonderful slippers. Black coats in general regardless of breed tend to exhibit more coat and maintaining a black coat is usually much easier than other coat colors.

Next, is Marley who lives in a wonderful companion home in Nevada and travels the country in a spacious RV and has explored many places and met many new faces. Third, is our Minnie Mouse who resides here with us at Cruisin Cavaliers.

I like to call this photo my "Opposites" because these two girls were just that in so many ways.

These girls were actually born in the car while I was driving. My local vet had gone to a conference so I was having to drive 3 hours to a repro vet I also use from time to time and they decided not to wait and appeared about 30 minutes prior to us reaching the vets office 3 hours away. They were born within 10 minutes of each other so when it was time it was time!

They were true "Cruisin" babies!
